What is a security laminate? PDF Print E-mail
A security laminate consists of multiple layers of polyester laminate pressed together with a pressure sensitive acrylic adhesive and are 10 to 15 mil (250 to 375 microns) in nominal thickness.

Security laminates with non-hardening adhesives can be used to withstand explosive blasts, whether they are deliberate bomb attacks or accidental chemical or industrial accidents. Not only should security laminates pass the minimum safety standards, they must pass the minimum security standards, the most stringent being the Underwriters Laboratories 972-1984 test.

Test description: Hard-impact multiple steel sphere drop tests from different drop heights (2,3 to 4,11kg; 3 to 12 meters), under indoor and outdoor conditions (UL 972) or combined with boiling test (BS 5544). European standards also include different performance levels which then help the police, insurance and other specifiers choose the most appropriate level for defined exposures. These test simulate smash and grab/burglary and vandalism attacks, the test is to establish whether or not the intruder/attacking individual can penetrate the glazing.
