One of the most threatening dangers is shooting. Whether it is the threat of being attacked by terrorists, hijackers or being victim of a drive by shooting.
As with burglary or explosions there are many available products to help this situation. Bullet resistant glazing is typically made of several layers of glass with PVB interlayers. Glass thickness of certified bullet resistant glazing starts at about 15mm of laminated glass, to stop small hand guns. And up to 60mm to stop shots from rifles. Trying to minimize the weight of glass in combination with polycarbonate is often used. Minimal thickness and clear "white" optic is achieved but these solutions are much more expensive. When thinking of bullet resistance, the complete construction of the window and not just the glass must be considered.
Profilon® is not marketed as bullet-resistant glazing, but PROFILON® has been demonstrated on one-half inch annealed glass and effectively stopped 9mm, .38 and .45 caliber rounds fired from a distance of 10 m. The end user determines the suitability and use of the product.
Warning: Ballistic applications of PROFILON® depend upon very specific criteria. Ballistic applications of PROFILON® are shown, only to demonstrate the strength of the product, not to imply that all applications of PROFILON® have ballistic capabilities. Check with your factory trained PROFILON® dealer. The performance criteria of the product must be established in each case. You should satisfy yourself with an actual demonstration of product performance before proceeding.
