In fact PROFILON ® is the only security film worldwide with a full pass to Underwriters Laboratories 972 “Burglary Resistant Glazing” and DIN 52290 Class A1 specifications. Considering that the UL 972 is the only approved glazing and film test for burglary resistant glazing, it was that with this in mind that Defence Concepts became the contracted supplier to Sub-Saharan Africa in 1999.

Local inception: With the increasing levels of burglary, smash and grab, hi-jacking and robbery in South Africa over the past decade, the idea was born to source the best product available to give people and property the best chance of surviving such an attack as well as protecting life and limb. Hence Defence Concepts was born in 1999.

Defence Concepts: With its head office based in Wynberg Sandton, Defence Concepts is a subsidiary of Diesel – Electric Rand, Robert Bosch South Africa’s single largest independent automotive aftermarket distributor.

With this resource, backing and experience, Defcon has since its inception, grown from strength to strength having managed to increase its local distribution and official approvals several times over.

Nature of business: Due to the properties of PROFILON ®, Defcon trade not only in the securing of automotive glass but commercial building glass as well ( otherwise known as flat glass), with work as diverse from guardhouses, office buildings, residences to embassies.

Distribution: Apart from the head office in Wynberg Sandton, Defcon is represented via Defcon East Rand, and Defcon Brooklyn and Strand (Cape Town) as well as the Glassfit Secure Tint organization, with branches countrywide.

Local Approval: Defence Concepts are the only BMW factory approved and Mercedes Benz factory recommended aftermarket window laminate supplier in South Africa. They are also the only AA accredited window laminate installer in South Africa and in 2007 have one again achieved a 100% rating.

Local Product Range: Current product line-up, ranges from basic smash and grab security film through to heavy duty bullet and bomb resistant security film, with the tint range being clear, 50% and 35% across the board.
